Experiments With Giant Synchrotron Begun at Ames
Iowa State College scientists have started initial tests on two new 80 million volt synchrotrons. The facility, a rare major research machine, will study nuclear physics under the Institute for Atomic Research with Dr. F. I. Spedding as director. Construction began two years ago, GE built the magnet, and the lab enables remote operation and rapid sample analysis via pneumatic tubes.

Cheese Proves Budget Friendly With Rising U S Production
Nutritionists at Iowa State College say cheese remains a sound budget food as U S production climbs with milk output. Per capita consumption hit 7.1 pounds last year, a record, with production up about 100 million pounds year over year and potentially more this year. Cheese offers protein on par with meat and supplies calcium and B vitamins. It pairs with eggs, cabbage, spinach, potatoes, and fruits in various dishes. In 1949, 1,564,000 Americans were injured in traffic accidents.
