City sanitation chief Al Fred Gomez announces a renewal drive to tag and ticket containers not meeting code. Inspections will require replacement within ten days, addressing odors, pests, and unsightly conditions in Pecos.

Pecos highs reached 100 with a 63 night low as a cool front oozed southward. Forecasters expect 84 Saturday then 45 to 58 lows Sunday through Tuesday with clear to partly cloudy skies. Showers and possible heavy storms forecast in North Central and Northeast Texas. waterspouts were seen southwest of Galveston and a tornado aloft near South Lake with no damage reported.
The federal revenue sharing bill would grant Pecos County Reeves County $339000 with Reeves County receiving $208000 and Pecos $131000. City of Pecos would use funds when received as City Manager Maxey notes. Other totals include Ector County $536000 and Odessa $848000. larger city allocations list Houston $14028891 and Dallas $9699255.

The Pecos area reports a 5 percent local sales tax quarter ending June 30, with city secretary Lorraine Henderson noting $43,459 in city shares. The state kept its 2 percent collection fee, and Texas cities nationwide received $43,649,984 in similar payments, with Houston leading at $8,945,876 and Dallas at $6,086,845.
Three American pilots freed by North Vietnam arrived at Kennedy Airport and were taken to military hospitals in New York Alabama and California. Edward Elias Gartley and Norris Charles were greeted by families and officials amid protest and political debate. Gartley’s mother pressed for a family visit, while Elias said Hanoi conditions had been met by staying with peace activists. Gartley, Charles and Elias had travelled via Peking Moscow and Copenhagen after release.
