High schoolers tour Texas Ag Experiment Station fields
About 150 area high school students joined a field day at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. Dr. Jim Hefner noted welcome participation remains open to all interested. Experts from multiple campuses demonstrated drip irrigation and benefits for drought and energy costs. The two-setup aims to boost yields, reduce water use, and possibly add a crop in a growing season for crops like alfalfa, wheat, and barley.

Tornadoes and severe storms hit two separate Texas areas overnight. In El Paso County Fair tents collapsed injuring four of about 150 under canvas, while Bay City and Gatesville saw twisters and light damage. Girl Scouts in Pecos Grow with United Way Support
About 400 Girl Scouts in Pecos participate in 12 troops under 60 adult volunteers. The program, aided by United Way, offers outdoor skills, arts, citizenship and home crafts at Hat A Ranch and Mitre Peak. Last year featured a father daughter banquet with 500 attendees and Pecos held its first day camp for nearly 100. Leadership is strengthened by 200 hours of adult training and a 12 percent membership rise.
