Area accidents injure two men in weather related incidents
Rain slick roads caused three traffic accidents Thursday and Friday injuring two men. Benny Joe Barnes of Salt Flats and Carl Johnson of Pensacola were treated and released at Memorial Hospital. Barnes suffered minor leg injuries when his pickup was hit by a truck tractor rig driven by Vennett Young. Young was ticketed for unsafe speed. A rental trailer driven by Ricky Lavon Applegate overturned on wet pavement but caused no injuries. Carl Johnson was thrown from a truck-tractor rig driven by Joseph Miller Sr. when the rig jackknifed near Pecos. Johnson received minor cuts and bruises.

Local men sought for 14 mile pipeline project near Barstow
About 50 to 100 workers are needed for a 14 mile pipeline six miles south of Barstow. Great Plains Construction Co. plans 150 total workers with many from Pecos and across the country. Workers will be paid $3.07 an hour on union scale. Construction, ditching, right of way and stringing started, with lining up on Thursday and coding on Friday.
