Texas gas explorers must drill deeper wells
Texas has large untapped natural gas reserves requiring deeper drilling. Humble Oil official Hoglund notes 90 percent of gas found so far is under 15,000 feet while 75 percent of undiscovered reserves lie 15,000 to 30,000 feet deep. Only about 1,000 of nearly 585,000 Texas wells exceed 15,000 feet due to economics, technology, and rising drilling costs.

Scientists suppress lightning experiments in Colorado and Arizona
Scientists report successful field tests in suppressing lightning in a 200 square mile Colorado farmland area after earlier work near Flagstaff Arizona. Project leader Dr. Heinz Kasemir says chaff made from metallized nylon fibers raises atmospheric conductivity, dissipating storm electrical fields and reducing lightning. Urban areas are impractical due to radar interference.

Origins of the dollar name traced to Joachimstaler coins
