Mourners Remember Clay Slack in Pecos Funeral
Relatives and friends gathered for funeral services Tuesday at Pecos Fe neral Home Chapel for Clay Slack. Pallbearers included Bob Bickley Jim Ed Miller Jack Link and others. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Slack, born in Pecos in 1890, moved to Presidio in 1927 and influenced state business and public life. his son Richard L. Slack has long served as state representative from the district. His sister Evelyn Slack Mahoney was a local real estate agent who died earlier this year.

Sunday told police that her 1957 model car parked at American National Insurance Co., 12 W Second St., was driven away by two teenagers about 1 10 p.m. Jay Treat of Pecos Insurance Co. saw the youths drive off and alerted her. Police radioed Highway Patrol who stopped the car east of Pyote at 1 34 p.m. The two juveniles were taken to Monahans and said they were from Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Tornadoes roam near El Paso area with thundershowers
Storms moved across the Texas Panhandle and far West Texas with funnel clouds observed near Zaragonza eight miles southeast of El Paso. No damage reported. A tornado warning was briefly issued for Hudspeth County as a cool front moved in from the west, bringing cooler temperatures and scattered showers along the coast and interior.

Rabies precaution at Balmorhea school after bat bite
Fourth grade student Stephanie Cope was scratched by a bat found on Balmorhea Elementary School grounds on Friday September 8 and Rabies later confirmed. The school nurse cleaned the scratches and instructed all involved to wash hands. Superintendent Allan H. Gilbert notified parents and urged medical consultation. Stephanie and two other students received post bite injections. Rabies risk explained. Pasteur treatment advised if bitten.
