Allen Illinois man Arthur Atwood, in critical condition with first and second degree burns, was injured when a lettuce truck struck a bridge abutment and caught fire six miles east of Kent early Sunday. Wife Mary Scofield, 32, of Rockford Illinois, drove the truck tractor. both victims were taken to Van Horn hospital.
City Editor Frank Perea leads county discussion urging the commissioner's court to direct the hospital administration to end the policy banning foreign languages. They argue it violates employees civil rights, while others warn of embarrassment and tension. The meeting ends without a resolution as bid details for new X-Ray equipment are reviewed.
Miss America 1975 Shirley Cothran Barrett will appear in Pecos this week. Tonight at 7:30 at First Baptist Church she will entertain on the flute and share her testimony. Tuesday she speaks at Pecos High School Cafeteria about her reign. Barrett, born in Denton, holds degrees from North Texas State University and is pursuing a counseling doctorate.
Vic Shackleford GOP candidate for the 16th Congressional district opened his El Paso office at 1001 W Yandell. He plans extensive travel next week to discuss beliefs and meet voters. Eagle band boosters meet at 7 30 p m today in Zavala Junior High band hall with a tour of new facilities and fundraising goals on the agenda.
A giant two day sidewalk sale has been set for Friday and Saturday by the Retail Merchants Committee of the Pecos Chamber of Commerce. Committee chairman Bob Miller says many stores plan this sale to be one of the best yet and urges everyone to attend for good buys. Watch for sidewalk specials advertised in Thursday's Enterprise.
Security State Bank chairman Archie Scott organizes a Tuesday 10 am telephone conference in his office linking farmers with Washington officials Rep Dick White Rep Bob Poage and others to discuss natural gas and farming issues inviting all interested in the area.
