Indiana coach Knight faces jail in Puerto Rico
Bobby Knight, Indiana University basketball coach, was convicted in absentia of assaulting a Puerto Rico police officer during the Pan American Games. Judge Rivera set a six month jail term and a $500 fine upon his entry to Puerto Rico, while extradition is unlikely. Knight said he never intends to return. Puerto Rico governors declined extradition and Indiana governor would not approve it. Knight defended his actions, explaining a disputed eye poke, and recalled his team’s triumph and supporters lifting him in celebration.
