The Pecos All Stars defeated Ward County 6 to 0 in Monahans on Sunday, winning back to back all star games. The town team, made of former Pecos High and college players, had also won the earlier Barstow game 7 to 0, in front of a good crowd.
Pecos All-Stars travel to Barstow for a Sunday game against Jal in New Mexico. The Jal team prepares for the match with player call ups and a 10 cent admission noted.
The Lions held a Wednesday luncheon with a two part program. Health hints were shared by speakers including Walker and Pars er while Weaver spoke on preventive medicine. Miss Lucille Stephens attended and gave a gracious acceptance. The secretary was directed to draft a regional letter about furniture demand and city applications to attract more soft water supply. a Legion Armistice Dig was also voted.
City council member Barney Hubbs outlined Pecos soft water project at the Pecos Rotary luncheon. A $300,000 loan would include a $57,000 government grant and $245,000 to be repaid over 30 years at $9,720 annually, with revenue bonds secured by plant assets. The city plans to buy the current water plant for 850,000, add two wells south of town, and build a storage tank and 10.8 mile pipe line to Pecos with adequate pumping to supply water.
A Ward county delegation secured assurances from the State highway department to widen the highway through Ward county from Monahans to Barstow and to build a new Pecos River bridge at Grandfalls. The department offered no start date but guaranteed eventual completion. A Barstow to Mentone state highway request received little encouragement.
