Divers followed a rope into the river to locate bodies trapped in sunken cars after a ferry and tanker collision near Luling Louisiana. The crash killed and missing tallies ranged from dozens to more than 70, as cranes tilted the sunken ferry and investigators surveyed the wreck.
Clear skies and a high pressure ridge brought unseasonably cold temperatures to Southeast Texas with readings mainly in the 30s and 40s. Local morning lows dipped to 29 before a late day upturn, while the state reported highs in the 60s and 70s by late afternoon and scattered showers were forecast for the next day.

His works include Humboldt's Gift Herzog Mr Sammiller's Planet and Henderson the Rain King.
