Fifteen elderly residents, many bedridden and aged 80s and 90s, died in a rapid blaze at a private nursing home near Honesdale, Wayne County. Coroner Robert Jennings plans a state investigation. most victims died from smoke inhalation, trapped in rooms along a corridor.

Moonlight Treasure Hunt draws 1000 plus shoppers in Pecos
More than a thousand treasure seekers flooded downtown Pecos for the Pecos Chamber of Commerce Moonlight Treasure Hunt. Parking was tight as eight stores opened for a three hour sale ending at 10 p m. Participants carried sale issue pages matching numbers posted in shops with many prizes awarded. Anthony's and Penneys both doubled their business as Manuel Tersero praised the event and Ree cia Pigman called it surprisingly good with much excitement and first time shoppers.

Thief Steals Coats Purses From City Church
Several youths attending First Baptist Church at Sth and Hickory Streets were robbed Tuesday night. A thief took two coats purses and two stereo tapes from a bus outside the church while youths from Monahans worshiped there. Police searched the area but found no suspects or items.
