T H Beauchamp longtime cashier of First National Bank marks 76th birthday after a Columbus Day celebration. He spent the day in Paris with daughter Mrs Jim Sharp then returned to Pecos. A West of the Pecos resident for over 55 years, he helped found the bank and taught in a one room schoolhouse.

Two Deaths In District Hike Total For Year
Two accidental auto deaths this week raised the district total to 34 for nine and a half months of 1939. Lewis Baker of Chicago died when his car overturned on Highway 62 between Sierra Blanca and El Paso. Daniel C. Fowler of El Paso was fatally injured when his car blew a tire and overturned west of Van Horn. Four others were injured. Mrs Velma Mulligan of Monahans broke her back after a collision near Monahans. Dorothy J Koster and others overturned near Pecos but escaped injury.

Funeral Services Held Here For Jal Youth
Funeral services were held here Monday for Douglas Smith Nor fleet 14 of Jal New Mexico who died in an El Paso hospital October 13 from encephalitis. He had been ill in El Paso three weeks and was a member of the Methodist Church the Boy Scouts and the Jal High School band.

Underground Water Survey Opens in Pecos
Work began this week on a thorough survey of Pecos underground water conditions. Led by Eldon Dennis of the U S Geological Survey, about 10 WPA workers drill 40 test holes from the Pecos River to the city’s west to map water depth flow and fall.
