Money Drives Texas Oil Well Drilling Counts
In Texas, oil men drilled 9,808 wells in 1974 and 12,438 in 1975. Despite a dip early in 1976, activity remained ahead of 1975 by 11 percent. Costs rise with depth, technology, and inflation, with Texas drilling nationwide accounting for about one third of wells last year.

Richard White Criticized for Big Spending in Budget Vote
Vic Shackelford, Republican candidate for the 16th district, accuses incumbent Richard White of votes that raise the federal deficit and spending. The final passage of the $413.2 billion federal budget on Sept 9, 1976 is projected to cost a family of four about $7,650 next year. Shackelford argues for better businesslike government and says White has become a costly bad habit for the district.
