Dick Gutierrez Runs Dick's Sweet Shop Since 1951
Dick Gutierrez began Dick's Sweet Shop at 411 E Fifth St in 1951 after leaving a Naval hospital and a stint at Pecos City Bakery. From a small start selling five or six dollars worth, the shop now offers a wide variety of baked goods with a focus on cakes and cookies. The Gutierrezes run the business with one part time employee and sell most products in the shop after dropping the delivery route in 1970. Two local stores carry some bread and doughnuts. Gutierrez has cooked since 1932 and plans to locate any special item a customer wants.
