The season’s prize fish tale recounts a gull swooping over Balmorbea Lake and plummeting to the surface to grab a minnow. The bird then carried off the rod and reel of a surprised fisherman, leaving the tackle on the far side of the lake.
The piece notes soon to be finished Carlsbad road connecting with Texas through a new bridge over the Delaware at about $50,000, and praises irrigation driven transformation from Malaga to Carlsbad. It envisions Pecos Valley becoming farmland with homes and shade trees, similar to current Pecos area gains. Arch Bell and J. T. Mace representing Red Bluff Realty Co filed an affidavit certifying Red Bluff as a town. The townsite lies on the highway three miles from the damsite. At least one other townsite is being promoted.

Progress on the Red Bluff loan for 2.6 million dollars from the Rural Finance Corporation gains momentum. RF C engineers may recommend the proposition to the board as Judge Starley from Pecos travels to Washington to bolster irrigation interests.
An anxious parent asked a town marshal to search for a lost child. Red O Neil led a careful search, found the child asleep behind a door in the back of the house. The child had been warned not to play in the mud but did so and grew too frightened to return.

The Rotary and Lions baseball series tied at one game each will finish Friday at 5 30 PM at Rotary field. Rain and hail postponed the original Wednesday start. An exhibition boxing show by Boy Scout troop members will accompany the game for charity.
Pecos high school held its annual commencement with a full auditorium as the Senior class, dressed in caps and gowns, marched in to the processional. Rev John Byrd offered the invocation and Mary Catherine Couch delivered the salutatory, expressing thanks for support during high school years.
Pecos law enforcement remains strict on 3.2 beer despite its widespread open sale in Texas. Sheriff Louis Roberson and District Attorney Bill Kerr insist the existing law prohibiting beer sales will be enforced, with arrests and grand jury consideration as needed.

Good will trippers from Monahans representing the Lions Club invited Pecos to the Days of 49 celebration to be held in Monahans the last three days of the month. The delegation included nine bars and about 35 to 40 people with banners and the Monahans band providing music.
