In Pecos April building permits totalled 194,840, more than triple the 1974 April figure of 59,650. Largest permit went to Southwestern Builders of El Paso for a 155,000 day care center at 1010 E 10th, with numerous other permits issued for homes, carports, patios and small remodels across Pecos.
A Commerce Department study shows local government in Reeves County spends 60 percent of budgets on school operations, construction and education per capita. Nationally education accounts for 41 percent of local budgets, Texas 53 percent, with Reeves at $253 per person versus $234 nationwide.
