Krueger amendment pushes phased oil price deregulation
The House Subcommittee on Energy and Power rejected an immediate price rollback and approved Rep. Robert Krueger’s (D-Tex) plan for phased deregulation. The bill aims to remove price controls over about five years, arguing long term energy security and reduced foreign oil dependence. Krueger backed the phased approach despite preferring faster decontrol, with the amendment passing 8-7 after Democrats’ roll-back proposal failed.
