Rabbi Meir Kahane leader of the militant Jewish Defense League and six others were arrested Wednesday by federal Treasury agents with local police aid on charges of conspiring to violate federal gun and bomb regulations.
A federal grand jury was expected to reconvene today as antiwar activist Leslie Bacon refused to answer questions about travels and actions on March 1 the day the U S Capitol was bombed. Her California attorneys said she answered only a couple of routine questions during four hours of testimony.
Senator Lloyd Bentsen argues against a quick switch to an all volunteer Army. After visits to colleges he reports students favor a voluntary force but few would commit to volunteering. He backs extending the draft two more years while shaping the transition.
Wet weather swept the eastern United States while areas of the Southwest recovered from a dust storm linked to five deaths near Casa Grande. The storm spurred a 29 vehicle pileup southeast of Phoenix with 10 to 15 injured as severe thunderstorms hit the Southeast and flash flood warnings went out for Alabama North Carolina and Virginia.
Baton Rouge officials say the Department of Agriculture will begin aerial spraying on 10 000 acres in Caddo and Bossier parishes today weather permitting after adopting Environmental Quality Committee recommendations for rigid controls on Mirex use.
Gerald Ford led the push to revive the Supersonic Transport program. He helped draft the amendment shifting an 85.3 million dollar burial fund to restart the SST and persuaded five Republican opponents to switch from no to present, securing 201 to 197 victory.
President Nixon will deliver the May 22 dedication address at the LBJ Library in Austin. The program begins at 11:30 a.m. with Johnson also speaking, and the Texas Longhorns band performs a 30 minute prelude ending with ceremonial tunes as Johnson escorts Nixon to the platform.
The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger wed in St Tropez after a delay caused by a quarrel with the mayor over photographers. The mayor argued the town hall is public property and could not be cleared, while Jagger pressed for privacy before arriving for the ceremony.

Texas Water Quality Board chairman Gordon Fulcher urges May 18 voters to pass Amendment 4 to create a state matching grants program. It would raise federal funding for wastewater treatment, increasing grants to about 50 55 percent of costs and lowering city shares to 20 25 percent.
An Old Timers Team Roping and Open Jackpot will be held in Ft. Stockton on May 15 and 16 starting at 1 p.m. Both events feature four go rounds in roping and a three steer average in the open jackpot. Entry fees include stock charges, with a western dance by Joe Stout and the Country Squires and daily barbecues at 6 p.m.
Enrollment opens for the Pecos Twirling School July 5 to 9 at Pecos High School with beginner to advanced classes for ages six and up. Tuition is 12 dollars with a May 19 deadline, checks payable to Pecos Twirling School. An public exhibition is scheduled Friday July 9. An organizational meeting for all girls who want to play softball this year is at Dean Park at 6 p.m. tomorrow May 14. Attendees should include signed up players parents and prospective enrollees. Coaches should also attend. Lloyd Topliss is league president.
Troop 67 of the Boy Scouts sponsored by the Downtown Lions Club will host an enchilada supper tomorrow night from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Reeves County Sheriff's Posse Barn. Tickets are $1 at the door. proceeds fund new equipment for the scouts. Scoutmaster Sonny Dickenson invites the public to attend.
Five representatives of West Texas Production Credit Association will attend the Fieldmen Conference in San Angelo today and tomorrow. The Texas PCA loaned more than 25 million to farmers in 1970 and covers Culberson El Paso Hudspeth Pecos and Reeves counties.
The Advisory Council of the Community Council of Reeves County will meet Monday at 7 30 PM at Pecos Center 1100 Locust. Members and interested persons are invited. John Martinez of West Texas Educational Center will speak on adult education and present the program.
The public is invited to the Music Department's presentation of Señor Pimpernel in the Pecos High School auditorium. Tonight's performance begins at 8 p.m. Tickets cost 75 cents for adults and 50 cents for students.

West of the Pecos region remains fair and mild tonight and Friday. Low temperatures drop to 38 to 55 degrees with Friday highs reaching 75 to 90 degrees.
The Pecos Chamber of Commerce endorses Constitutional Amendment No. 4 the Clean Water Amendment to be voted on May 18 1971 and urges voters to pass it. The resolution appears in the May 11 1971 Board minutes and urges Pecos and Reeves County residents to vote in favor.
The First Christian Church hosts a Fellowship Supper at 7 p m with Mr and Mrs John E Huegel missionaries to Mexico City as guest speakers They will present slides and movies and later speak at the District Convention in El Paso Huegel born in Aguascalientes Mexico is the son of F J Huegel now retired in Mexico City after 36 years of missionary work He has degrees from the University of Wisconsin Princeton Seminary and Princeton Theological Seminary He and his wife Yvonne have five children and are assigned by the United Christian Missionary Society to minister in Mexico City
