Fishing season opens strong at Red Bluff and Balmorhea
Hundreds of Pecos area anglers filled Red Bluff reservoir and Lake Balmorhea on opening day. All 65 Balmorhea fishers reported limits while Red Bluff crowds fared well with many catching their limit. The Butch the Bass contest led by Jack Wills and Jim Durnal drew many entries with Fred Landreth and Gene Hendon leading early.

Pecos High Band Wins National Trophies in Abilene
Pecos high school band earned first division in marching and second division in concert at the national contests in Abilene. Several students won honors in solos and ensembles, with drum majors Eugene Hendon Hinkey Curtis and Charles Warnock achieving top baton twirling ratings. Curtis named among Texas Oklahoma New Mexico top baton twirlers. A brass sextette and a clarinet quartet also rated first division. The band receives a trophy for marching first division. medalists include multiple students. We traveled by school bus and private cars, leaving Pecos Thursday and returning Saturday.

Voters Favor Cancellation of School Bonds in Pecos
Twenty four voters cast ballots in Pecos on Saturday to cancel $46,000 in authorized but unissued and unsold school bonds. No votes opposed the revocation. Federal Court Opens Spring Term in Pecos Monday
The spring term of federal district court will begin in Pecos Monday with Judge Charles A. Boynton of El Paso presiding.
