Tens of thousands of West Berliners crossed into East Berlin as the Berlin wall opened for the first time in six years and East German countryside for the first time in 20. Crossing points opened at 5:59 A.M. and crowds moved through as authorities noted easing of tensions under four power accords. More than half a million West Berliners expected to visit east during a three day pass period ending April 5 with 300 000 applications filed for family trips.

Pecos ground and air crews joined noon time search for a twin engine private plane missing since Tuesday night on the Hobbs New Mexico to Midland flight. Group 16 CAP commander Lt Col Joarson said the Pecos unit was alerted Tuesday evening with four planes searching until 9 p.m. and 12 resuming at daybreak. Pecos pilots and ground crews prepared to deploy from between Odessa and Hobbs as sightings were reported but most turns out to be false.
