Stations switch to satellite network across public TV
Public television's three channel satellite system, funded by the Corp. for Public Broadcasting, now serves 153 non commercial stations across the lower 48 states plus Alaska Hawaii Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It halves costs from land lines and allows simultaneous programs plus tape delays. Obstacles included methane gas at Harrisonburg and chicken manure at Penn State, with lawsuits over frightened poultry in Maine.
