Weekend violent death toll climbs to 27 in Texas

Orla Airplane Makes Emergency Landing Near Orla
A light plane with engine trouble landed safely on Highway 652 two miles west of Orla. Dr. L. C. Dunlop and his two teenage daughters walked to Wes ley Phillips' Texaco in Orla to use a phone. Dunlop said engine failure at 13 000 feet forced the glide to the highway. The party had been returning to Beaumont from California. They reached the Texaco station about 4 30 p m and arranged onward travel via Midland. Authorities and highway patrolmen inspected the craft and assisted with flight connections.

Rescue mission aids Pecos CAP recovers aircraft wreckage
Civil Air Patrol Pecos Composite Squadron conducted a two day rescue drill starting Saturday afternoon at the Wor sham ranch 18 miles south of Pecos. Ground and air crews worked under squadron commander Charles E. Gann to locate two crashed planes and direct ground teams to the sites using radio aided by cadets and senior members.

Funeral for Manahan draws 200 mourners in Pecos
More than 200 persons attended the First Christian Church of Pecos service for Charles F. Manahan who died at 87. He lived in Pecos 84 years, was WWI veteran, former jeweler and florist, and a longtime Rotary Club president. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs Stella Manahan survives. The obituary notes his deep church involvement and local prominence.
