The Pecos Rodeo Committee in a Friday session named Fenton D. Alley manager of the 1939 July Fourth show. Alley, a seasoned rodeo manager, will head an open world show not governed by Turtle Association rules. The committee plans prize money to attract top performers and to give West Texas cowhands a chance to compete, with Buck Jackson noting booklet details and entry fees to be published. Port Daggett to supply steers and calves. Brahma bulls not contracted.
The Water Facilities program will spread across 630000 acres in Reeves Pecos and Jeff Davis counties with field offices established in each area. Work includes installation and maintenance of reservoirs wells pumping facilities and stock tanks for single farms and larger units as the cooperative effort under the Farm Security Administration and Soil Conservation Service advances. Reeves county farmers may seek guidance from County Agent Ted Johnston at the courthouse.
Pecos will back Big Spring in a 1940 bid with four structured works. Abilene plans to join later, while Wells remains the only other party to request the project. Loving County seeks a writ of error from the Texas Supreme Court in the $11,000 back taxes case involving Loving versus Reeves County. The petition by Loving County and county officials asks the court to hear the appeal. denial would close the case.
Plans firming for Saturday March 18 ceremonial of the Dramatic Order of Knights of Khorassan. John Oglesby and John Wadley lead local arrangements with Pecos Lodge No 388 Knights of Pythias. About 15 Pecos residents in El Hamad Temple will participate as members. Votaries from Boadil Temple Lubbock and El Bexar Temple San Angelo will assist in conferring degrees.
George Nagel was elected vice-president of the Pecos Chamber of Commerce to fill the unexpired term of Ace Ramsay who moved to Dallas to become merchandising manager for Butler Brothers.
Pecos High School presents a "Styles In Music" concert tonight at 8 in the school auditorium. Director Wesley C. May leads a 70 piece band in a revue of marches overtures and popular numbers with a coronet trio and new glockenspiel introductions. Notables include Twita Jean Lucas Shirley Glasscock and Tommy Cowan with Percussionist Correll and others on oboe bassoon and bass horn.
Duval Oklahoma farmer T J Sykes set the pace into Pecos as 11 riders retrace the Old Overland Mail Route. Shannon Davidson led El Paso and gained the overall lead while others followed through Pecos and Odessa toward San Francisco with a $750 prize for the first to Treasure Island.
R. V. Nabors district supervisor of the state comptroller's department came home from McCamey this week after a serious illness. He is reported to be recovering.

Members of the cast and students who will take part in between acts entertainment worked hard this week to perfect the annual senior play. The play Who Wouldnt Be Crazy by Katherine Kavanagh will be presented in the high school auditorium next Thursday evening March 16.

The 115th District Rotary International conference is scheduled for April 23 to 25 in Carlsbad. Guests include Clinton P. Anderson of Albuquerque and Emmet Richards of Alpena, with John P. Sheehan of El Paso as district governor. Pecos Rotary members are urged to attend with wives. Pecos is among 25 clubs in the district after Monahans formed a new club last week.
Interest grows for matched ropings Sunday March 26 sponsored by the Pecos Rodeo Association. West Texas and New Mexico sheriffs will compete with top riders including Jim Espy Clay Espy Charlie Norton and Curtis McElroy. Time keepers Sally Ikard Bill Cowden and Tuffy Alley. judges Jimmie Duncan and Bill DeRacy at Pecos rodeo grounds with 50c and 25c admission.
Judge James F. McKenzie 66 died at his El Paso home after a three week illness. A former Reeves county lawyer and former resident of Peecos, he was born in Caldwell county Texas. He attended Texas A and M College and studied law at Vanderbilt. Survivors include his widow Blanche, two sons James F. McKenzie Jr Mona hans and Terrell McKenzie San Francisco, one grandson Jimmie McKenzie III, other grandchildren and several brothers and sisters.
Capt. M. L. Swinehart and Richard L. Toll of Pecos were guests of the Monahans Rotary Club for their first luncheon since charter presentation. Swinehart served as principal speaker at the meeting.
Mrs. H. C. Zimmer and Mrs. Etheal Roddy with son and Miss Ercelle Arnold attended a beauty show in Fort Worth last week. Miss Mae Rogers returned with them to join the Zimmer Beauty Salon as an operator.
George Stephen, engineer for Western Oil, spoke to the Pecos Rotary Club at a Thursday noon meeting about installing standby transmitter equipment at a new Southwestern Bel one building. Jack Hawkins and Elmer Harrington attended as Rotary members under the indication laundries.
The Lions Club luncheon featured a question and answer bee on Pecos and its county. Rev. Oliver Harrison led the program which highlighted that the average resident knows little about the town. The event raised treasury funds as members learned the date of the world's first rodeo and the origin of the name Pecos.
