Retired DPS Officers Could Become Special Rangers
A bill to let retired Department of Public Safety officers be designated as special rangers won Senate Jurisprudence Committee approval. They may carry firearms but wear no uniforms and would enforce life and property protection only, not traffic. Senator Don Kennard objected and failed to move the bill to subcommittee. The measure proceeds to the Senate floor. Kennard praised DPS director Speir for upgrading the force and training new officers while noting reluctance to admit former officers back.
