Kim Allen 17 daughter of Mr and Mrs Bill Allen won the Golden Girl of the Old West title in Pecos after a demanding three phase event. She performed a piano medley tracing 200 years of history for the talent segment and will serve as Pecos host and Miss West Texas representative in 1977. Her sister Mary Allen Queen and four former Golden Girls attended. Reeves County Young Homemakers sponsor. A $500 scholarship accompanies the title.
A 15 year old El Paso youth, Scott Courtney, begins a six day 210 mile horseback journey to Pecos to attend the West of the Pecos Rodeo starting July 1. He travels with support from family and sheriffs passes, aiming to join the Pecos pageant and rodeo week.
The Pecos rodeo week events include a 10:30 a.m. parade on the west edge of Pecos with 21 floats, mounted groups, antique cars, a drill team, and the high school band. The 11th annual old timers reunion starts at 8:30 a.m. at the West of the Pecos Museum, with a 9 a.m. memorial plaque dedication for Korean and Vietnam servicemen. A barbecue meal follows at the rodeo grounds served by the Reeves County Sheriff's posse.
Pecos is represented by Kristi Kesey and Cynthia Scott among 19 contestants for the Miss West Texas title at the Odes sa event. Events include swim wear and evening gown with talent finals Friday and Saturday. Pecos Gold en Girl 1973 Mary Ella Meek will help host. Tickets $2.50 at the Coliseum doors.
A five day stop smoking clinic begins Sunday at the Pecos Community Center 506 S Oak St. The program is sponsored by the Saragosa Seventh-day Adventist Church with no charge.
