Dear Dr. Lamb on hospital sanitation and smoking rules
A reader recounts alarming sanitary lapses at a university hospital including glucose tests on a bed table, bedpans and urine on surfaces, and unsanitary food. The letter criticizes hospital administration, urges smoking bans in patient rooms, and advocates greater family involvement in care. It notes beds, gear, and staffing issues, and references Health Letter No. 62 on food poisoning.
