The Conference Board reports layoffs now dominate complaints as older workers face mounting discrimination. In 1969, after the federal age discrimination law took effect, employers paid about 40,000 in damages to 48 workers. Last year 2350 employees received nearly 6.6 million. Older white collar workers suffer more due to weaker seniority protections in unions.
