Brenham Dominates Pecos In State semifinal
Brenham's Mark Kuecker pitched a one hitter with 13 strikeouts as Brenham defeated Pecos 6-0 at Disch Falk Field in Austin. Linvel Mosby held Brenham to six hits but walked six and hit a batter, while Pecos committed three errors. The big sixth inning produced three Brenham runs and two more on a ground-rule double, sealing the win for the champs who improved to 27-5. Pecos ends the year 11-4.

Pecos plans its second annual Oil and Gas Appreciation Day on Saturday June 19 drawing potentially 2000 people. Organizers led by Pete Armbruster expect a larger turnout than last year with 1600 to 1700 at the barbecue. Hays Emerges From Coma After Sleeping Pills Overdose
Rep. Wayne Hays woke from a coma induced by sleeping-pill overdose and spoke briefly. Dr. Richard Phillips said the 65 year old Democrat's overdose was likely accidental and expected to fully recover within about 10 days. He remains semicomatose but lucid at times and will rest 7 to 10 days after hospital release before resuming duties. House leaders postponed action to force Hays to resign until his recovery, and Pitt researchers study the overdose.
