Severe storms sweep Texas Panhandle with hail and winds

Damaging winds and hail lashed the Texas Panhandle and surrounding areas during the night with a squall line lingering into the morning. The system stretched from Childress and Paducah northeast to Mineral Wells Denison Sherman and into Central Oklahoma, with showers from San Angelo to Comanche and toward Louisiana and Arkansas. Winds up to 60 mph toppled a mobile home and fences near Grover, hail up to two inches thick scarred maize near Channing and Stratford, and heavy rains caused widespread flooding and road closures across several counties. Temperatures remained below 100 as readings varied, with Canton and San Saba among the dampest spots.
