Funeral of Mrs. Lillie Cole Set This Afternoon
Pecos teacher Lillie Wiseman Cole died at 55 from internal acid burns after drinking acid at home. She served Pecos public schools since 1911 and was active in church and clubs. Funeral at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Survived by two daughters and three grandchildren. The community plans a memorial to support students.

Pecos River Valley Survey Trip Planned by Resources Committee
The National Resources Planning Committee will visit Pecos for a preliminary survey of the 510000 Pecos river valley project area. About 40 members will travel from Roswell to Las Vegas and Carlsbad then Pecos, with stops at Red Bluff reservoir and other sites. Fire Insurance Rates Cut In Texas Officials Announce
Fire Insurance Commissioner Marvin Hall announced a rate reduction of more than 10 percent effective September 1 in Texas. The move, part of a three year total 40 percent cut including 1937 and 1938 reductions, followed a public hearing in April showing underwriting profits higher than the proposed cap. Details of the new rate structure will be released around August 15.

Man Dies of Poison in Pecos Atrocious Accident
Ford Hamilton, 53, a former telegraph operator, died near the Texas and Pacific station after swallowing a full ounce of acid. He had recently moved to Pecos from Roscoe and was a brother of W. E. Hamilton of Pecos. An inquest by Justice of the Peace B. A. Oden ruled death by self administered acid poisoning. The body was sent to Sweetwater for burial.

Reeves County is among five West Texas counties to share a $150000 appropriation for the tenant purchase program in the next fiscal year. B Miller of the Farm Security Administration announced the plan, noting El Paso Tom Green McCullough and Runnels also receive allocations. The Reeves County Sheriff's Department said a young man drove it to Penwell and abandoned it to join two youths who returned to Grandfalls. The two Big Springs men were arrested at Van Horn last week in a related theft at Big Spring and a Fort Stockton robbery.
