Vaccine fears shadow Feds' fight against horse disease
AP reports a vaccine shipped to Texas and surrounding states may spread Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis. Dr. Frenx Hardy, now with the FDA, warns the vaccine could become virulent and urges controlled trials. In Texas 29 human cases exist while 1,132 horses have died and about 1,500 are ill. A USDA task force works in Houston as five states go under quarantine.

Training dates set for Texas game wardens and Iron Mike award

Physician Opens Office in Pecos General Practice and Psychiatry
Dr. Cleto Elequin has opened a general practice and psychiatry office in the Professional Building at Eddy and Daggett, Pecos. He trained at Lexington, Kentucky with residencies in general practice and psychiatry, and prior to Pecos served as superintendent of Eastern Psychiatric Hospital and associate clinical professor in the Medical School. City's first jail approved and police station remade
The Pecos City Council voted unanimously to build the city's first jail within the remodeled former fire station and expand the police facilities. About half of the $54 500 cost will be financed short term by the city. Construction of eight person drunk tank and 12 cell capacity for juveniles and adults begins immediately, with completion in four to five months.
