FPC nears decision on emergency interstate gas sales
The Federal Power Commission wrapped hearings on emergency gas sales to interstate pipelines and plans a rapid ruling. Chairman Dunham signaled likely approval with multiple legal approaches, asserting an emergency exists and the agency can act despite prior court rulings. The case centers on Houston Pipe Line extending 60 day emergency sales to Transcontinental Gas and United Gas Pipe Line, amid shortages affecting industries and jobs in states like South Carolina where Sen. Hollings warns 10,000 could lose work.
