Barstow Tragedy Claims Five Lives In Home Explosion
A Barstow neighborhood blast Monday night killed J T Hood age 27 and four children, plus another adult from the Hood family, with five others injured and hospitalized in Pecos. Fire destroyed a residence crowded with two families. the victims were buried in three caskets after services held Wednesday.
Son Duncan Claimed by Death at 15
James L. Son Duncan, 15, son of Mr and Mrs George Duncan, died New Year’s Day after a brief illness attributed to scarlet fever. Funeral held at the cemetery with Rev Edgar Ratliff officiating. Survivors include the parents two sisters two aunts and a grandmother and many friends extend condolences.

Bootleggers Busted During Christmas Week Raids
In Christmas week Sheriff Louis Roberson and deputies rounded up five bootleggers in Toyah and Pecos. One youth surrendered several bottles of tequila and coke. Lockhart to Resume Drilling in Artesia Territory
Cecil Lockhart, a pioneer independent oil operator, plans to drill upwell on a 2560 acre lease about 35 miles northwest of Artesia New Mexico. Pay depth around 3200 feet with neighboring wells yielding 150 to 500 barrels daily. Production will go to Artesia refineries. Arch Arrington will be tool dresser. The Goldman and McKague well in Lovithg County was shot Thursday and will be tested this weekend.

December Brings Cold, Wet Conditions to Pecos
Pecos records show December as very cold and wet with a low of 14 above on three dates December 7 16 and 17 and a high of 76 on December 5.
