The White House seeks to lift a ban on federal education aid to students convicted in campus disturbances. Rep. Neal Smith, the leading proponent of the three year old restriction, says the measure will remain in appropriations bills moving through Congress.
The IRS suspended the tax exempt status of Wolfson Family Foundation Inc of Jacksonville for one year effective last October, prompting former Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas to resign from the court. Miami financier Louis E. Wolfson confirmed by telephone that the exemption was lifted.
Thunderstorms tore through parts of the Deep South with springlike rain extending into the central Midwest. Colder air brought snow to inland Pacific Northwest and northern central Rockies.

A 19-year-old U S Army inductee from California hijacked a Western Airlines jet with 97 aboard on a San Francisco to Seattle flight over Medford Oregon. The craft landed in Vancouver Canada where RCMP took the hijacker into custody. After checks 90 passengers were flown to Seattle. The pilot said the man claimed a bomb but surrendered after landing.
A South Vietnamese paratrooper base inside Laos fell to the North Vietnamese today with about 450 defenders virtually wiped out. The North Vietnamese then laid siege to a second base six miles away.
The Nixon administration faces a bleaker outlook as February wholesale prices rise eight tenths of a percent, signaling higher consumer costs ahead. Treasury Secretary Connally urged faster money supply expansion to meet ambitious targets, while the Fed worries about fueling renewed inflation.
