County Judge J. B. Woolfolk said the Pecos street project awaits WPA authorization rather than local opposition. He noted 27 workers are ready, with 2000 in lumber funds for Toyah Creek bridge, and that other Reeves County projects, including the Bulmorhea dam and Farmers Improvement ditches, proceed only after WPA approval.
The Post Office will stay open tomorrow afternoon until six o clock to give people a chance to mail packages.
The fifth annual Pecos high school alumni ball will be held in the high school auditorium on Friday evening December 27 starting at 8 o'clock. Gjien Hudson and his Fort Worth orchestra will provide formal music for the invitational dance. A large crowd is expected and about 250 invitations will be issued.
Medanich from Pecos was unanimously chosen at left end and Charlie Medanich led the all-district selections. Chaffin Prothro Knight and others earned unanimous votes as part of the mythical eleven with Johnny Green, Bob Knight and Joe Bob Kelton among top picks. Pecos Odessa Wink Odessa tied for most selections with three players each.
The Carlsbad Cavern saw 118 visitors Saturday, lifting the monthly total to 1651 and marking a 30 percent rise from last December. Year to date visitors total 113,795 since January 1, up from 90,328 a year ago, an increase of about 23,467.
Dick Starley and Ralph Williams Jr students at the University of Texas will arrive Sunday to spend the holidays in town.

Sullivan, engineer for the Red Bluff project, builds a small model of the dam for display in the Hotel Del Norte lobby during the Sun Bowl Carnival in El Paso the last two days of December and the first day of January. The model is a Pecos Chamber of Commerce gift and will be exhibited there and later returned to Pecos for display again.
Lela Kelly of Pecos High School earned a spot on the all tournament team from the Van Horn girls invitational. Van Horn won the tournament by defeating Kermit 19 to 14 in the playoff. Pecos had earlier fallen to Kermit.

Pecos schools will dismiss this afternoon for the Christmas holidays and resume classes Monday December 30. A holiday is observed on Wednesday January 1. Practically every teacher will spend the holidays out of town or visiting at home or elsewhere.
Drs. C D and J F Gipson will relocate to new offices at the southwest corner of Hotel Brandon ground floor starting January 1, moving from their current location to begin offering full services to patients in the new year.
A thief broke into the M System through a back window Saturday night rifled the cash register of all the change and took several packages of cigarettes and a few bars of candy. The robber escaped without leaving evidence of identity. The loss was negligible since only a small amount of change was accessible in the safe.
Superintendent R Henry Blackwell announced Pecos Schools are again rated by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools for the ninth consecutive year. The accreditation ensures graduates can pursue credits at any southern college without restrictions, marking the highest possible rating for the district.
Mrs Clarence Mount spent last weekend in El Paso shopping and visiting her sister-in-law Miss Bill Mount.
Cecil Allen Wheat of Mentone died in a West Pecos tourist camp from sun wounds after a despondent period. Justice of the Peace W E Morrison ruled death by own action due to worry. Funeral services were held at Pecos Funeral Home with Rev G Abbott officiating. Survived by wife, father Jim Wheat, two brothers Jim and Woodrow, sister Mrs Bot Moorhead of Mentone.
The University of Texas received the most distant application this week when K. B. R. Acharya principal of the Day College of Madras proposed extending enrollment to the correspondence division.
Clarence Bell and his daughter Mrs. Wray Gaye traveled to Carlsbad on Wednesday for business matters.
The high school band debuted before the public at Tuesday’s assembly in the auditorium, delivering a 30 minute program of Christmas carols and other pieces. About thirty visitors attended, and the band’s next public appearance is at the invitation basketball tournament on January 24 and 26.
Dr. George Hi Garrett traveled to St Antonio on Saturday night to drive Mrs. Jarrett and daughter Patricia back to Pecos. They returned on Tuesday.
