In Pecos a Georgia man James Allen Almond was found guilty in a non jury trial of importing 550 pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute. Border Patrol described an electronic sensor system used in four counties around his head.

Bus Truck Collision Injures Alamogordo Students
In fog near Alamogordo New Mexico a school bus carrying 13 students collided with a southbound empty cattle truck. Bus driver Laurie Davis 21 and one student are in serious condition four more students injured on stretchers. Truck driver William A Steinkamp 28 escaped injury. The crash occurred as the bus turned from Boles Acres onto U S 54 five miles south of the city.

Pecos Scouts Attend Monahans Award Banquet
About 20 Pecos residents joined scouting leaders at a recognition banquet in Monahans on Monday with guests from Van Horn Barstow Kermit Wink and Monahans in the Sand Hills district. Among attendees were Mr and Mrs Bill Abercrombie Mr and Mrs Steve Sweet Mr and Mrs Jerry Swaim Santana Elisa Mendoza Margie Williamson and David Dunn district executive recently transferred to Midland Ronald and Darlene Kilmartin. Darlene Kilmartin received an Award of Merit. Music by Jimmy Bryant and awards to Clem Crowley and Ron Ethridge were announced. Mrs J R Pete O’Callaghan retired at 71 and received a veterans award. Marcos Junior Martinez also received an award of appreciation though not present.

Training jets collide in flight at Reese AFB
In Lubbock Texas Lt Philip Randall Jones of Minden Louisiana died when two training jets from Reese Air Force Base collided in flight during a four plane formation over West Texas. Three crew parachuted. Lt Robert Jones of Las Cruces New Mexico is in critical condition. Capt James P Crumley of New Orleans and Lt Dennis E Maple of Neligh Nebraska identified as other pilots. investigation launched. One jet burned on impact.
