PECOS COUNTY GAS TESTS CONTINUE AT MULTIPLE WELLS
In Pecos County Texas Pacific Oil Co continued testing at No 1 Elsi nore Cattle Co well 4 miles southeast of the Pikes Peak gas field. Through perforations at depths 12 636 to 12 750 feet it flowed 1.75 to 3.6 million cubic feet of gas daily over 17 to 24 hours. Cities Service No 1 A Sams State Ellenburger gas discovery west of Fort Stockton tested through perforations 21 716 to 21 915 feet, flowing 4.4 million cubic feet of gas and 17.87 barrels of water per hour. The Wellaw Corp plans No 2SWH Farms State Lease as a northwest offset to the Marlaw field.

Attorney General Curbs Governor Spending Power in Texas
A 24 page opinion by Atty. Gen. Crawford Martin declares the legislature overstepped its authority with appropriations bill riders. Forty one of forty five riders in the current fiscal year's bill are invalid, as they require prior governor approval for specific expenditures. Only four riders are deemed constitutional, and most riders recur in the new appropriations bill taking effect Friday.

PCB links to birth defects from industrial chemical study
Dr. Helene Cecil reported at the American Chemical Society meeting that PCB exposure in chickens caused a high embryo death rate and birth defects in controlled lab tests. In Beltsville, 20 ppm PCB in feed produced 843 nonviable embryos of 1,200, with 286 abnormalities. hatchlings showed stunted growth and edema in many cases. Further study needed to confirm PCB itself as the culprit.
