Pecos Pony League All Stars crushed Abilene 8 0 to advance within three wins of the World Series in Pennsylvania. New Brand Law Starts August 30 for Cattle in Reeves County
A new Texas law requires re registering all cattle brands and marks. From Aug 30 1971 through Feb 29 1972 producers must file current brands with county clerks and designate where on the animal the brand appears. If brands are unrecorded after Feb 29 1972 they may be used on a first come basis.

Mexico turns over suspect to FBI in Nevada County killings
Clarence Otis Smith 43 of Auburn California was to be arraigned in Brownsville for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution on two counts of murder. Mexican authorities turned him over to the FBI after a capture by Mexican police. Smith, a native of Childress Texas, disappeared July 22 after questioning in the deaths of Donna Fitzhugh 28 and John Simmons 29.

A Pecos man in the U.S. Air Force in South Vietnam sent a wish to his wife via the Pecos Enterprise. The paper ran a special front page with a large print message and a published photo, delivering about 50 copies to the recipient. The gesture included a personal note and a smaller head reading I Love You Very Deeply, as the couple mark two anniversaries apart.
