Mayor Tolliver commented on the unanimous council choice.
The Pecos business community moves toward National Recovery Administration goals with 109 firms adopting the Blanket Code by Friday. The 13th annual Paisano Baptist Encampment near Alpine and Marta draws many Pecos residents as attendance soars. About 450 Pecos residents gathered at the district courtroom for an NRA pep meeting called by Ray Lewis of the Chamber of Commerce. Speakers praised Roosevelt’s national recovery plan via the Blanket Code and urged Blue Eagle patronage, with Davis named local NRA executive and the committee listing Mr. Davis as chairman and the mayor among members.
Reeves county cotton farmers plow under about 1100 acres under orders from Washington to reduce cotton acreage. Farmers sign on the cotton option plan with the government and will receive checks this week or next, about 14 400 dollars distributed in Reeves county.

Mr and Mrs L J Woods and their son Lewis left Wednesday for a vacation across parts of New Mexico. They were joined by Mr and Mrs Pat Patterson on the trip.

An organization to promote a constitutional amendment allowing up to 20 million dollars in state bonds for unemployment relief was formed in Reeves county. Judge Ben Randalls led the meeting and named Jack Hawkins publicity chairman and Senator K M Regan bureau chair. Local units will operate in Balmorhea Saragosa and Toyah with announcements coming later. The bonds face an August 26 vote.
Judge R D Blaydes of Fort Stockton announces candidacy for State Representative in the 58th district to fill the vacancy caused by B F Haag's death in Midland. A special election set for August 26 covers thirteen counties including Presidio, Jeff Davis, Pecos, Reeves, Loving, Winkler, Andrews, Ector, Ward, Upton, Crane, Midland and Martin.
In El Paso this week V. Sigmund district manager of Safeway Stores conferred with M. L. Stiewig of the local Safeway store.
The federal relief office, long at Hotel Brandon, relocated this week to a suite above the Pecos Drug Co in the Bozeman building. Judge Ben Randall, Reeves County relief committee chairman, asks applicants for R F C work to see him there.
Miss Ruth Allsup of Odessa arrived Thursday for a visit with Mr and Mrs Leo Mears.
Jack May of Pecos Country Club won the Pecos Country Club Invitational golf tournament defeating Bill Dean of Pecos by 4 and 3 in the final of the championship flight. Visitors from Carlsbad Wink Monahans Odessa Alpine Fort Stockton and Pecos participated with about fifty golfers.
Dairymen in Pecos recently passed a state inspection and report all four state Co. E approvals. This week they announce modestly higher milk prices due to increased costs for food and materials. Local producers emphasize home ownership, local spending, and sanitary practices to deliver top grade milk.

The Dunagan Bros and Bra Haney No 1 H H Johnson et al Reeves county about ten miles north of Pecos reported drilling at about 4400 feet. Scouts note a very slight oil showing between 4300 and 4400 feet and say the future course is not yet determined.
The Van Horn Methodist ladies face Toyah Indies baseball in a 6 o clock Friday play off at Van Horn to decide supremacy. Van Horn and Toyah each have one win and crowds are expected to be large with all proceeds going to the two women’s organizations.
A nine pound girl named Bobbie Dawn arrived on August 3 for Mr. and Mrs. George Till. Mother and child are doing splendidly. Congratulations to the couple.
