Governor Clements vetoes housing and trucking rate bills
Governor Bill Clements rejected a trucking rate bill, calling it bad public policy, and vetoed a measure raising home mortgage interest from 10 to 12 percent. He warned of possible special sessions if housing slumps persist while urging only a 5.1 percent pay raise for state employees including teachers.
