Pecos memories include Second Street as a main thoroughfare in the early 1920s and a fountain at Second and Oak transformed into an enclosed building. The Enterprise Festival '76 edition seeks such pictures, with photos to be brought to the office for processing and safe return.
The Associated Press reports rising winds across Texas bringing warm damp air and scattered thundershowers possible by evening. Temperatures ranged from 46 in Marfa to 97 in Pecos with extensive cloud cover and forecasts of severe storms in Northwest Texas.
Kindergarten pre-registration for the 1976-77 school year will be held three days from April 21 to 23 at the Earl Bell Kindergarten, 500 S. Peach St., Pecos. Parents with children who will be five years old by Sept. 1 are urged to enroll during the period.
Workmen progress on the $1.2 million Pecos kindergarten to replace the present facility. Area Builders expect completion in December with control by the district before mid term. The new building will have 19 classrooms two multi use rooms and a cafeteria. Reeves County tax official Jim Preslar urges all qualified voters to get their blue voter registration card before the May 1 Democratic Primary. She notes it speeds voting and reduces confusion, with two weeks left for those on the old list to re register and receive cards.
The Pecos Enterprise will publish a special picture-filled bi-centennial edition titled Festival 76 in June. Publisher O Ferrall Pauly says it will be the most complete Pecos history yet, with stories and pictures of past present and future. A community CB break at city park will precede coverage.
County Clerk Catherine Ashley announced ballots are ready at the clerk’s office for eligible residents to vote absentee in the May Democratic Primary. She began accepting ballots today after 11 a.m., with a deadline set at 5 p.m. April 27.
Preschoolers to third graders will enjoy a giant Easter egg hunt with 10 000 eggs hidden in the city park Saturday. The Morning Optimist Club sponsors the event with prizes from 1 to 5 dollars inside some eggs. hunt starts at 9 a.m.
Ronald Reagan spoke at Robert E. Lee High School to a capacity Midland audience pledging less government. He criticized Ford over the Panama Canal Zone, praised California’s budget balance, urged an immediate overhaul of agencies, and pressed energy concerns while praising a second look at Webb Air Force Base. He left Midland for Austin to continue his campaign.
Seven West Texas towns and Southern Union Gas delay their Austin rate hearing as Lo Vaca Gas Company proceedings influence the schedule. Pecos Mayor Pigman says the hearing shifts to 9 a.m. April 26 at the Texas Railroad Commission with Pecos Barstow Monahans Pyote Wink Wickett and Thortonville set to present objections to a three pronged revenue increase.
The government clears the CB license logjam by allowing new CB buyers to obtain a temporary 60 day operators license for 4 dollars via mail. Call signs will be constructed with a K prefix plus initials and ZIP. Permanent licenses will follow later. forms available Friday in CB shops or from FCC offices.
