Labor Day weekend drew an estimated 67300 people to Payson and nearby areas. Public Safety reports 29390 vehicles over three days, seven accidents, and 1 injury, none serious, with August collisions rising from 22 to 35 and injuries from eight to 29 including a fatality.
Payson area voters will vote in a primary on Tuesday with turnout expected moderate due to light local competition though statewide races are lively. Polls open 6 am to 7 pm at Payson No 1 in the Gila County Administration Building with Helen Stanfill as inspector.

Breakdown includes elementary building fund 3817 81 dollars high school building fund 3180 26 dollars elementary 10 cent levy 1830 13 dollars and high school 10 cent levy 4023 71 dollars.
The U S Forest Service reports Payson received three quarters of an inch of rain on Tuesday. Anna Mae Deming, a weather observer, notes the week ranged from 38 to 95 degrees with August highs of 99 and lows of 47. Precipitation for the month totals 1.74 inches, three inches below August’s average.
