Two die in Highway 87 crash near Town Hall site
On Sunday two vehicle crash on Highway 87 by the Town Hall entrance left Nellie Harrison 79 Payson and Semtus Eilertsen 86 Payson dead. Anthony Mulkey 18 and his brother Joseph were hospitalized with injuries. Anthony remained hospitalized with concussion and head laceration Tuesday.

Summer home patrol cuts Payson burglary rate sharply
Court records show Norman Lewis Smith of Cave Creek pled guilty to three counts of second degree burglary. The summer home patrol, started by Sheriff Lyman Peace in 1974, yielded 30 arrests and significant drops in burglary rates across 11 summer home areas from Diamond Point to Christopher Creek. Reserve deputies John Howlett and Chuck Staley aided the effort, and Operation Identification aims for 100 percent participation next summer. Open house at Julia Randall Elementary School runs 7 to 8:30 p.m. with tours of classrooms and facilities and refreshments to follow.
