Payson High Homecoming Kickoff With Rally Parade and Dance
Payson High School launches a three day Homecoming starting with a Thursday pep rally and bonfire at the campus. A Friday parade at 2 30 p m features 16 floats from classes clubs and Booster’s Club with a 25 prize for first and 15 for second. The Longhorns host Apache Junction Prospectors in football after a 2 15 p m dismissal, while Saturday’s dance and coronation run 8 p m to midnight in the elementary gym with music by Adam the Rock and Western group.

Pair charged for burglary of clothing store
A juvenile escapee from Adobe Mountain School near Phoenix and a Payson youth were arrested after the Stockman’s Shop burglary on Main Street about midnight Saturday. Williams, 16, was charged with first degree burglary and returned to Adobe Mountain. Sumner, 17, was referred to Globe juvenile authorities.

Law may test training rules for Gila reserves
The Gila County Sheriff's Office may challenge minimum training standards for reserve deputies by not filling an Eastern Arizona College basic police course in Payson. Nine of 55 reserves enrolled, forcing cancellation. some reserves will take the course in Globe. The issue centers on ALEOAC rules and whether reserves must meet full-time deputy standards or operate with limited authority.

Annual workshop for Gila County school board held in Payson
Local school board members and administrators from Gila County meet in Payson for their annual fall workshop in cooperation with the Arizona School Boards Association. The dinner meeting begins at 6 30 p m at the Payson Elementary Cafeteria with ASBA leaders present. An election for a two year term on the ASBA Board of Directors will be held.
