Carol Callahan 17 of Forest Lakes hunted on her first elk tag and shot a 1100 pound bull at 262 yards with a .30.06 at 5 p.m. on Sept 28 about five miles from home. The 7 point rack may set a state record. She is a Snowflake High School senior, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bob Callahan.
A consumer protection discussion is scheduled in Payson on October 13 at 1 p.m. at the Payson Woman's Club. Sponsored by the Homemaker's Extension Service, the panel features Chuck Crabtree chamber president Ele Insche Richard Johnson and Dottie Brockman. Betty Faris will present a slide on the issue.

Rescue organizations plan a three day Arizona Search and Rescue convention in Payson from October 15 to 17 hosted by the Gila County Sheriff's Posse. A mock search for two boys near Payson on October 16 will involve SAR teams and the Arizona National Guard with a first aid/drowning scenario.
