Town board urged to reverse fire detection requirement
Payson Home Care Center, a boarding home for about 15 elderly residents at 702 S Oak St, was closed Sept 28 after owner Edna Murdock failed to install an early warning system. The board of appeals found it unnecessary under current ordinances but urged a simpler system. Fire Chief Charles Jacobs called the building a special hazard due to high elderly occupancy and 50 year old construction. Attorney Duane Olson argued occupancy definitions do not require the system. Council will consider the recommendation at its next regular session.
