Payson earned its first football divisional championship with a 20 12 victory over Phoenix Christian and swept all five Central Division games. The Longhorns earned the right to state playoffs and will face the East Division winner at 6 p.m. November 19 at Mesa Community College. If Thatcher wins Friday, they claim the East Division. if Tombstone wins, a three way tie is possible.

Northern Gila County votes split by region in county elections
Northern Gila County backed Republican candidates in contested races while the rest of the county favored Democrats. Turnout statewide hit 78.2 percent with northern precincts at 75.5 percent. Northern seven precincts cast 23 percent of returns, and strong opposition to creating a community college district helped defeat the measure.

Flu Shots Given to Hundreds at Payson Clinic
Gila County Health Unit administered swine flu inoculations at Julia Randall Elementary School gym in Payson on Wednesday. At 10 am a line stretched through the door and down the steps and by noon about 200 people had received the vaccine.
