Jones Murphy Win School Board Seats
Rain and light snow kept many away from the first professional Bluegrass event in Arizona. Payson was chosen for its central location and tourist draw as the festival’s West start. About 1,800 attended with 450 Friday, 527 Saturday, and 522 Sunday paid. the rest were free for bands and families. Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass, sponsored the event and plans to return next year despite financial loss.

This time the adult won first prize by predicting Payson Superior’s score within one point and earned $10. Tony Mc Daniel took second with $5. Welker Named LDS Bishop in Payson Ward
Bob Welker became bishop of the Payson Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints on Sunday succeeding Audrie Harrison. He had been second counselor a post now filled by Joe Spear. Welker also serves as Payson Chamber of Commerce president and manages the Payson office of the Valley National Bank.

Payson Records First Snow and Killing Frost
In the first week of November Payson experienced its first snow and first killing frost of the season. A trace of snow fell Saturday and the low temperature reached 25 degrees Monday as reported by Anna Mae Deming, U S weather observer. October showed a temperature range from 34 to 86 degrees with 3.51 inches of precipitation.
