Town moves toward low income housing project approval
Town Manager Jack Menschein authorized preliminary steps for a possible low income housing complex of three or four stories with one and two bedroom units priced for tenants over 62 or disabled. If approved HUD would reimburse up to 185 monthly per unit. 10 percent of units reserved for the disabled.

Payson Sanitary District requests resident survey
The Payson Sanitary District asks Payson residents to take a survey this month to aid planning of wastewater collection and treatment facilities. They note current permanent population at 4200, with 2796 growth since 1976, and projected to 6726 by 1980. Data will guide safer, feasible improvements while meeting EPA and State Health Department rules. All responses are confidential and will not raise costs.

Maryland man dies of injuries in Payson crash
A Maryland man died of injuries from a one vehicle crash five miles north of Payson on Highway 87. Jim Valentine 73 and his wife Mary were hospitalized with injuries after the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. William D. Suttle 75 of Rock Hall Md died of injuries from the crash. Henry deputies said two passengers were ejected.

About 80 people attended NGCHS Charter Membership Night at Julia Randall Elementary School cafeteria for a grilled steak dinner and program. Dr. Charles Colley of ASU spoke on Arizona historical societies, Vertielee Floyd recounted the group’s beginnings, and an after dinner skit by Marguerite Noble entertained. Ira Murphy presented membership cards, and Ray Schmidt designed the logo carved on bullet hole punctured certificates. Steve Chapin provided music while Cleo Taylor serves as vice president and Mrs Noble is secretary.

Searchers Find 2 Lost Hunters Near Soldiers Camp
Two hunters, Don Lilly of Phoenix and Jim Budd of Sedona, were located Wednesday afternoon near Soldiers Camp between Young and Gisela. Search units from Young and the Gila County Sheriff's Posse joined the effort after a Tuesday start. The duration of the missing men’s exposure was not known.
