Payson Junior High Marathon Raises Funds for Muscular Dystrophy
A 12 hour basketball marathon at Payson Junior High raised about 300 dollars with 100 participants playing balanced jokes like left hand only games for boys and no experience for girls. The event included door to door solicitations and post office picketing to fund muscular dystrophy research. Public hearing on town ordinances set for March 27 and burglary cases from Quillen's Gun Shop include two pleas of guilty and three awaiting pleas. guns valued near five thousand dollars were mostly recovered.

Payson Adventurer Art Elder Returns From South Pole
Art Elder, a heavy duty mechanic and member of the first civilian Antarctic construction crew, returns to Payson after a stint at the South Pole. The crew, employed by Helms and Narver under contract with the NSF, worked on utility tasks for a new polar station at McMurdo. Elder, who joined a 30-man team, says the harsh environment and wind driven snow threatened the old station. He anticipates returning for another summer season. Elder has traveled widely and was awarded honors from the Polar Club and Knight of the Explorer Penguin Court.
